MIPCOM 2023: MADD unveils Rich Fall TV Slate

by

MADD Entertainment has announced its slate for MIPCOM, the biggest international TV market, which will take place from October 16 to 19.

For MADD, this year's MIPCOM is especially important as the distribution giant, which represents a host of the most successful production houses in Türkiye, is celebrating its fifth anniversary since launching.

To celebrate, MADD will be showcasing five brand new titles: Wild Heart (Yabani), The Brave (Hudutsuz Sevda), Dirty Laundry (Kirli Sepeti), My Wonderful Life (Şahane Hayatım), and Light In The Dark (Bir Derdim Var).

Wild Heart, which premiered in early September on FOX, quickly became the #1 drama on Tuesday nights, steadily increasing its ratings week-to-week. The series, produced by NTC Medya, follows the remarkable journey of Ali, who was abducted as a boy and ended up working for the gang that kidnapped him. After enduring years of hardship, Ali renames himself Yaman and escapes his captors to build a new, better life together with his three friends. Things are not easy for this new family, but they work hard and are able to leave their dark past behind. Through it all, Yaman somehow manages to keep his soul pure and never succumbs to the darkness that surrounds him. A twist of fate eventually reunites Ali with his wealthy parents, but their world is very different from the life he's known. Caught between the family he made and the family that was stolen from him, he must decide: Is he Yaman or Ali?

The Brave, which generated quite a bit of social media buzz after its premiere on FOX this Fall, centers on Halil Ibrahim Karasu, who returns to his hometown in Karadeniz, to marry his childhood sweetheart. But when the son of a local crime boss kills Halil's fiancée, he becomes a one-man army whose sole purpose is destroying the mob. Halil gains some unlikely allies in this private war, including the don's daughter, who falls in love with her father's enemy - and there is nothing more dangerous than a Karadeniz woman in love.

Dirty Laundry has quickly made its mark since it first aired on Sunday nights on FOX. The MEDYapim-produced series tells the story of one such group of resilient women whose lives are spent cleaning up the messes left by others. The story begins when Meryem, one of these women, tragically falls to her death while working in a house, an event that goes unnoticed by the people she served. İlkgül, Meryem's friend, and Kahraman, a journalist, join forces to uncover the truth behind Meryem's untimely demise. As they seek justice for Meryem, they also begin to unravel the hidden complexities of the households Meryem and the other ladies serve, shining a light on the walls between "us" and "them" in society.

My Wonderful Life, an upcoming Ay Yapim-produced drama series set to premiere imminently on FOX, stars Hilal Altınbilek (Bitterlands, Black Rose) as Şebnem—an anti-heroine born from adversity—who claws her way to the top of society’s ladder. A scholarship kid at an elite school for the super-rich, no one thought she would make it to their level. But with a dash of plastic surgery and unwavering ambition, Şebnem seizes the ultimate prize: a wealthy husband named Onur, played by Yiğit Özşener (Ezel). Their union promises luxury, privilege, and the envy of all who bear witness. However, the illusion crumbles when the ghosts of Şebnem’s past resurface, threatening her picture-perfect existence.

Amidst the glitz and glamour, Şebnem’s life takes a turn as her criminal history comes back to haunt her. Between protecting her family, preserving her status, and reconciling the darkness in her past, Şebnem’s life becomes a twisted dance. From her entanglement with the magnetic homicide captain, Mesut, played by Onur Tuna (Hidden Truth, A Miracle), to her rivalry with Onur’s haunting ex, Melisa, and the relentless hatred of Aysel, Onur’s mother, Şebnem finds herself fighting battles on multiple fronts.

Last but not least is Light In The Dark, a thought-provoking new series from AyNA Yapim, a subdivision company of Ay Yapim. The Turkish remake, based on the critically acclaimed series Italian series Oltre la soglia (On the Brink), tells the story of Dr. Nilüfer Toska (Birce Akalay), a dedicated psychiatrist with a special talent for helping troubled teens. For Dr. Nilüfer, there are no hopeless cases. Her unique understanding of the adolescent mind keeps her one step ahead of her colleagues. But Dr. Nilüfer’s genius carries a steep price. Despite her success, she is haunted by an awful secret that, if it ever came out, could ruin her career.

Dr. Nilüfer’s nemesis is Ömer (Mert Fırat), an uncompromising prosecutor who believes that the only way to help a juvenile delinquent is to enforce the law strictly. His own troubled adolescence taught Ömer that punishment is the only cure, and Dr. Nilüfer’s gentle approach exasperates him. One case after another puts them on opposite sides of the table, but their shared desire to help these kids – as well as their own troubled pasts – draws them together. Light In The Dark explores the balance between logic and emotions in a world where things are seldom black and white.
