Kemal the Porter (Oktay Kaynarca) has spent years carrying loads through Eminönü alongside his mentor Derviş (Erdal Özyağcılar) and his fellow porters, known as Son Kafile. But the heaviest burden he carries is the weight of a terrible sin from the days when the world knew him as Harputlu Kemal. A sudden death draws Kemal back into the darkness he once escaped.
Hayat (Fahriye Evcen), meanwhile, makes a living singing at various venues, struggling each day simply to stay on her feet.
As Kemal and Hayat embark on a journey of atonement together, they face Egemen (Caner Cindoruk), a figure from their past. While Egemen prepares to build his own kingdom by sacrificing one side of the city for the other, Kemal will fight this time not for his own revenge, but for the lives of those he loves.
Stretching from historic inns to modern skyscrapers, from bread shared among friends to millions stolen, “Hamal” will tell a story that pits the old against the new and guilt against redemption, against the backdrop of a great battle unfolding in the heart of Istanbul—and a love more difficult to achieve than anything else.
Caught in the flames of this relentless conflict, Tekin (Burak Tozkoparan) and Hilal (Yasemin Yazıcı), along with Esfender (Yiğit Uçan) and Melez (Sera Kutlubey), will change the rules of the game—first to survive, and then to find a way to be together.
