Turkish remakes of Korean Dramas have been on the rise in recent years, spawning a hit or two every season. Given the success of these remakes, even with minimal adjustments for Turkish audiences, it was inevitable that the tables would turn, leading to Korean adaptations of Turkish series, driven by the similarity in lived experiences.
In true Inter Medya fashion, the leading distribution company announced today (Aug 19) a groundbreaking licensing agreement with South Korea for a remake of Love Undercover (Ruhun Duymaz)—a historic, first-of-its-kind deal for the Turkish TV industry.
The script of the remake of the Turkish rom-com is currently being developed by some of Korea’s top screenwriters. Details about the local cast and the remake will be shared in the coming months.
Produced by O3 Medya, the original fan-favorite Ruhun Duymaz series, which premiered in 2023, starred Şükrü Özyıldız and Burcu Özberk, as Ozan and Ece, the former professional intelligence agent, the latter a skilled jewelry thief. Forced to work together on a secret mission, their cat-and-mouse antics take an unexpected when they begin catching feelings for each other.
Speaking on the landmark deal, Can Okan, Founder and CEO of Inter Medya, stated: “Adding another milestone to the global success of Turkish content is incredibly exciting for us. Through local-language adaptations of our titles, we're broadening the reach of our industry and achieving success on a global scale. As Inter Medya, we are thrilled to be at the forefront of this success in Korea.”
"We are thrilled to have licensed the remake rights of Love Undercover to South Korea. Until now, Korean adaptations have been broadcast in Turkey. This time, we are excited to license a Turkish format’s remake rights to South Korea. With these remake rights, we aim to introduce Turkish content to new regions. We hope this will be the first of many such ventures," added Pelin Koray, Senior Sales, Acquisition, and Strategy Manager at Inter Medya.
