Çağatay Ulusoy's incredible capabilities as an actor are particularly fresh in everyone's minds these days as due to the current climate, a lot of his older works are currently been played as re-runs! That is in addition to his fantastic foray into sci-fi with Netflix's "The Protector," which is said to be wrapping production with its fourth and final season.
With that opening up his slate, Çağatay Ulusoy will reportedly now star in a historical piece for state-owned TRT1. Ranini.tv was the first to report the news. TRT1 is no stranger to period pieces as one of their very own productions, Diriliş: Ertuğrul, promptly became a phenomenon in-n-out of Turkey.
The Çağatay-led period drama, which is tentatively titled "Barbaros," is being produced by ES Film (Halka, Payitaht Abdülhamid) and Taylan Biraderler has been placed on directing duties. For a drama as major as this one, it's no surprise it is being penned by not 1 but 3 talented screenwriters, Cüneyt Aysan, Ozan Aksungur, and Oğuz Ayaz.
Thus far, this announcement about Barbaros marks the most ambitious upcoming production in Turkey post-COVID–19, and with it being in a period time setting (which tends to require more people on set; more expenses to make props fit the era, etc.), how the cast & crew will navigate a production as big as this one is definitely something to look forward to.
Next season's slate is certainly starting to brew with the addition of a Çağatay-led series.
