With the success of Turkish dramas in Spanish-speaking regions, it was only a matter of time till Turkish-Spanish co-productions became a thing.
As more deals continue to be made behind the scenes, one of the first Turkish-Spanish co-productions to see the light of day is La pasión turca, an upcoming romantic series, set to premiere on Spain's Antena 3 in the coming weeks. The series, which officially kicked off production last November stars beloved Spanish actress Maggie Civantos alongside Türkiye's very own, Ilker Kaleli. They are joined by a mix of Turkish, Spanish, and Italian actors, the likes of Ainhoa Santamaría, Yasemin Sannino, Fernando Andina, Laura Pamplona, Arlette Torres, Burak Hakki, and Mariona Terés.
Directed by Iñaki Peñafiel, the series, which will consist of six 50-minute episodes, will tell a frenetic story of love and passion starring Olivia, a Spanish professor of Fine Arts, and her Turkish lover, Yamán, who will embody a story full of lights and shadows.
La pasión turca, which is based on a 1993 book by Antonio Gala with the same title, is penned by Irene Rodríguez and Esther Morales.
The premiere date of the series is yet to be announced but in the interim, here's its complete synopsis:
Olivia, a Spanish professor of Fine Arts with a brilliant professional career, wakes up from a coma in an Istanbul hospital after having attempted suicide. There she answers the questions of an inspector who is investigating Olivia's collaboration in a network of art smuggling with Yaman, her Turkish lover.
As Olivia tries to recount the last the overwhelming passion that she lived with Yaman that made her abandon her life project in Spain, to get out of jail and get protection from the authorities, she must return to Yaman's side and inform the police of his movements. An act as brave as it is desperate: is Olivia acting to save herself or to save Yamam and their love story?
