Fuelled by standout performances from a stellar cast led by Burak Deniz and Su Burcu Yazgı Coşkun, Bir Gece Masalı boasts the makings of a classic Turkish drama, deftly balancing bold storytelling with audience-baiting twists and turns.
Produced by Türkiye’s NGM Medya, the series tells an impossible love story between Mahir (Burak Deniz), a police commissioner on a mission to avenge his father’s death, and Canfeza (Su Burcu Yazgı Coşkun), the daughter of the enemy he vowed to someday destroy for his father’s demise.
With only a few episodes in, Bir Gece Masalı is already a hit among viewers worldwide. We had the pleasure of visiting the series' set and seeing firsthand the amount of hard work that goes into the production of a single episode, and the cast and crew deserve high praise.
Without further ado, read further for our interview with the series’ incredible leads, Burak Deniz and Su Burcu Yazgı Coşkun, where the pair spills a few set secrets, breakdown their characters, and share with Dizilah why everyone should be watching.
Thank you for taking the time to chat with us. Bir Gece Masalı has been filming for a while now. How has the process been? It was wonderful seeing you in action on set.
Burak Deniz: From the beginning of the project, I made an effort to be involved in almost every part of the process, working closely with our director and producer. We entered a busy period in Denizli to film the series' first episodes. Although we had to adapt to the script and the team quickly, it was a time that, while initially exhausting, was fulfilling and enjoyable.
Su Burcu Yazgı Coşkun: We began filming in Denizli. We completed our first three episodes ahead of schedule. The shoots went wonderful, and we were very satisfied with the results. After a short break, we are now continuing and eagerly awaiting to meet the audience.
You received many offers this season but landed on Bir Gece Masalı. What was it about this series that made it right for you?
Burak Deniz: The authenticity, originality, and the way the script presents the feeling of love with a fairytale-like quality unique to this land were among the first reasons that drew me to it. The character structure, which I had never tried before, excited me.
Su Burcu Yazgı Coşkun: I read Bir Gece Masalı at a time when I wanted to rest, but I loved the script so much that I immediately gave up on the idea of taking a break :) The mystical way of the script captivated me, and I also saw a bit of someone I know in Canfeza. That’s why I was so eager to play the character. My decision was made very quickly after reading the script.

Tell us a bit more about the series. What can viewers look forward to in the first season of “Bir Gece Masalı”?
Burak Deniz: No matter how I answer this question, I feel like I'll be giving spoilers :) But I can say this: everyone will believe in the existence of these characters and the unique love between them.
Su Burcu Yazgı Coşkun: As the title of “Bir Gece Masalı” suggests, the audience can truly expect a modern fairytale. It’s about a man who returns to the city to take the revenge of his father’s death, accidentally falls in love with a girl without even knowing her name, and the impossible love that blossoms from there.
How did you prepare for your role in the series? What acting challenges did you face in fleshing out your character?
Burak Deniz: While discussing the direction of the script with the director and the writer, Mahir slowly began to take shape. The freedom Emre (the director) provided made it easier for me to dive into Mahir's depths. Honestly, I’m as curious as anyone else about what will happen to Mahir and how he will react.
Su Burcu Yazgı Coşkun: Before filming began, we spent some time working with our director and my partner. We meticulously read the script multiple times and discussed each scene in detail. We’re looking forward to presenting what we've created to the audience.
Speaking of your character, how would you describe your character in three words?
Burak Deniz: Brave, trustworthy, and bold.
Su Burcu Yazgı Coşkun: I’d describe Canfeza as faithful, innocent, and hopeful. She finds herself suddenly thrust into a major conflict, with his father sacrificing her for his own interests. However, Canfeza's faith is very strong, so she finds things to hold on to and never loses hope.

The dynamic between Mahir and Canfeza is something that fans are very excited about. Without giving too much away, what can you tease about what’s to come from their relationship?
Burak Deniz: Let's watch this together—it's a surprise! :)
Su Burcu Yazgı Coşkun: Canfeza and Mahir meet by chance. You know how sometimes you see someone and feel as if you’ve been struck by them? That’s exactly how they both feel—an intense attraction at first sight. Although they try to stay away from each other, they can’t manage to do so. There’s a strong bond between them, constantly bringing them together, something even they can’t fully understand.
Do you already have a favourite scene you filmed together so far?
Burak Deniz: Every scene is new and unique for all of us. The scenes in Denizli, with its magical atmosphere, could be the ones I’ll never forget in this project.
Su Burcu Yazgı Coşkun: I love the scene in the first episode where I enter the water and pray in the cave. The filming was quite challenging; I had to enter the water multiple times. But the atmosphere of Denizli’s Kaklık Cave was so beautiful that it made me forget all the difficulties. Additionally, since this is the scene where Mahir and Canfeza first meet, it holds a special place in my heart.
Emre Kabakuşak brings a depth of experience and a unique artistic vision to every project he directs. What has the experience of working with him on Bir Gece Masalı been like?
Burak Deniz: Emre is a true leader. He’s a director who makes you feel safe, both with his command of the set and his extensive knowledge. He knows exactly what he wants from the script and the set and plans accordingly. I believe the sense of security he provided has significantly impacted the project. I can’t imagine anyone else directing this work.
Su Burcu Yazgı Coşkun: Director Emre is one of our greatest assets in this series. From the creative process onward, he has been incredibly helpful on set. He’s a highly professional director who cleared up all the questions I had. Just having him on set provides a great sense of comfort for me.
What do you want people to get out of “Bir Gece Masalı”?
Burak Deniz: Rather than making conclusions, I’d recommend leaning back, relaxing and enjoying the magic of this atmosphere. :)
