Oi oi oi. Powerhouse production company Ay Yapım has teamed up with Globo for a Turkish remake of one of the most successful Brazilian melodramas of all time, Avenida Brasil (Brazil Avenue).
The remake, which was officially announced during the Mipcom market, will mark the first international adaptation of the 2012 International Emmy-nominated mega-hit series, with the team at Globo set to be consulting. Per Variety, "the unprecedented agreement allows for Ay Yapım to make some changes as long as it adheres to the telenovela’s main storylines."
“We are very excited to produce and create the first version of this great story. I am sure this will be the next hit that will travel the world one more time. I believe joining forces in this new journey will bring a lot of newer opportunities in the future,” said Kerem Çatay, CEO of Ay Yapım.
Avenida Brasil, which has been licensed to over 100 countries over the last couple of years, tells the dramatic story of Rita, who struggles to recover the life her dreadful stepmother Carminha took from her when she was a child.
The Turkish remake of Avenida Brasil will be distributed by MADD Entertainment.
